The History of American Airlines Center
An indoor stadium called Reunion Arena was the primary home of the Dallas Mavericks basketball team. However, once they gained more fans and started playing important games, they concluded that a larger arena was needed. In this way, all fans could come and watch them play.
Therefore, it was established in 1998 that a new stadium had to be built to replace the old one. The city of Dallas agreed with the Dallas Mavericks players, and that’s when they all started thinking of building the American Airlines Center.
They hired David M. Schwarz, who was appointed to design the new stadium. He focused on implementing classical architectural designs that fit the beauty of Victory Park. The roof is silver and cylindrical, and the facade is made out of red bricks.
The newly constructed stadium, which was originally built for the Dallas Mavericks, was later decided to be shared with the Dallas Stars. This is how the basketball team and the hockey team of Dallas were able to establish equal rights to this joint venue.
On the stadium’s opening day, they decided to invite the musical band Eagles to perform. The first sporting event at American Airlines Center was the soccer match between the Dallas Sidekicks and the San Diego Sockers.
